Angus Macfadyen Chanel Swim 2010

Competition Rules

A deliberate effort has been made to avoid too many limiting rules, to give your students the most opportunity to be as expressive as possible when interpreting the subject matter, however there are just a few!

All works MUST be made at school, never at home. There is no restriction on art work size, other than an upper limit of two foot squared/cubed. Raw materials can be brought in from home, unworked.

Any medium can be used - from drawing to sculpture and pottery to computer/film (if a computer or video camera is used, a suitable monitor must be supplied with the instillation for screening)

! If it takes the students interest it should be encouraged !

Each work of art should be acompanied with a rectangular piece of paper measuring 15cm/10cm's, with the artists name, age and a short description about their piece, which can include:  what it means to them, their ideas behind it, why they got involved and the experience they had whilst involved with this project.

Description.

The hunt for a most original and beautiful work of art that encapsulates the phrase - ' Angus' big swim across the British Channel to bring fresh water to people in Africa'

Deliberately the choice of words incorporates Africa, giving the students the opportunity to really have fun, let their minds explore, their imagination run free.

Dates -

The Competition is set for 2010 Summer term and runs from the May  - 11th June. Judges for the competition will be visiting the competition schools during the week 14th - 19th June, please let me know your preference of three days within that week, as soon as possible.
The judges are visiting your school to pick two entrants that they feel best meet the competition criteria. The exhibition for the chosen entrants from each school will be held at Brighton's Jubilee Library from the 7th - 18th July; during which the overall favorite will be decided by the schools and public in a charity fund raising 'text vote', running the course of the exhibition - (text voting will be possible online from the 1st July 2010) This will be advertised with the BBC, Web, local media and through your school.

Ever penny of the pound that is charged for each vote will go straight to the 'Lawrences Roundabout Well Appeal' - Your mobile operator will charge their standard rate.

Prizes -

The 'Channel Art Challenge School will be presented with approximately £750 of art equipment, to be chosen from the stock lists of Windsor&Newton and Daler Rowney and Reeve. Also a framed watercolour of the school.

The Channel Art Challenge Artist will be presented with the latest 'XBOX' - from Microsoft.

Once the dust settles -

It is hoped that once the two winners have been chosen, that your school might consider holding an exhibition/auction/sale for parents, in order to generate extra funds for the Charity that you have chosen, with me to support - L.R.W.A. I will also will ask the chosen artists from each school, if they might be willing to allow their art work to be auctioned off at a charity fund raising evening, being held in the middle of September as an additional fundraiser for L.R.W.A - I know from my Mother the Artist/Painter Diana Cumming, that letting go of your work can be tough, but of course in the commercial word, somewhat essential to survive! The decision is of course rests with the artists.

I hope that the above gives you all the information at this stage that you will need to come on board and get as many of your pupils involved, however do let me know if you want any additional detail.
